Amphenol Procom helped a wind farm with a DAS solution

For a reliable communication system it is necessary to undertake regular maintenance, especially when there are physical obstacles that blocks the radio signal. Below is an example of how we helped a wind farm get radio coverage with a DAS solution.

The requirement was due to safety reasons to provide radio coverage inside wind turbines during maintenance. The coverage had to provide contact between wind turbine, support boat and land. The struggle was the wind turbines construction. These are built of concrete steel and have a height of 80-120 meters. Furthermore, there were several steel platforms blocking the radio signal. We developed a dual band 2.4 GHz and 5.6 GHz WiFi patch antenna and placed connected antennas both inside and outside the wind turbine. One antenna in the top, one in the bottom, and one outdoor CXL omni antenna to pick up the RF signal.

The result was a reliable RF DAS system which secured the needed coverage for the maintenance workers.
